Unit 3 (2)
Today’s psychology class took a more challenging turn. We had done roleplays before, but this time it was different. Instead of working in small groups, we were asked to perform in front of the entire class.
Our names were written on chits, and one by one, they were picked randomly. Whoever got selected had to come forward and take on the role of either a client or a counselor, right there, in front of everyone.
The moment the chits were introduced, the energy in the room shifted. There was nervous laughter, a bit of silence, and that shared feeling of “what if my name comes up?” I was feeling that too haha!!
When students were called, they had to talk about a real problem, not something made up. That’s what made this exercise feel much more serious and personal than the previous roleplays.
Watching it unfold was powerful. The “client” had to open up in front of the class, while the “counselor” had to respond thoughtfully, using the skills we’ve been learning, active listening, empathy, and appropriate responses.
